Great event puts stamp on Vietnam’s broadcasting development

The 8th Asia Media Summit (AMS8) offers an excellent opportunity for Radio the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) and broadcasting organisations in the region and around the world to promote their exchanges and witness Vietnam’s Doi Moi (renewal) process.

VOV and the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) have jointly organised the AMS8 in Hanoi from May 21-26.

International delegates expressed their delight at visiting Vietnam’s thousand-year-old capital city of Hanoi, recognised as the city of peace.

Many urgent regional issue related to broadcasting development were discussed.

The AMS initiated by the AIBD, is one of the most important and prestigious media events in the region. It provides a useful forum for leaders and experts from radio and television agencies and organisations around the world to share information and experiences in the broadcasting field.

With the theme “Digital Media Everywhere: Repositioning Broadcasting”, the AMS8 attracted 600 Vietnamese and foreign delegates. During the summit, 11 media seminars were held by the world’s leading broadcasting organisations such as AIBD/CFI (France), ITU/AIBD/ABU/FES and AIBD/UNESCO/FES, with a focus on developing digital broadcasting, strategies for training and managing human resources and copyrights. Following AMS8, AMS9 will be held in Thailand in May next year.

AMS8- an event imprinted with the stamp of the digital technology era, officially opened in Hanoi on May 24. This was the first time such an event has been held by VOV in collaboration with the AIBD and other ministries and sectors.

The 60 minute opening ceremony was broadcast live on VOVTV, VTC, VOVNews and the AIBD website. The opening session included speeches by VOV General Director Vu Van Hien, AIBD President Hoyvib Mohamed Waheed, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan and AIBD Director Yang Binynan.

AMS8 also covered important reports from experts and leaders of domestic and international radio and television stations and organizations. Two Gala Dinners hosted by VOV and VTV were also held during the summit.

AMS 8 is of great significance, for helping broadcasting organisations devise orientations for future development and cope with challenges to move forward new broadcasting horizons.

Vietnam is designing a roadmap to promote digital broadcasting transmissions through 2020 and beyond and a strategy aimed at turning Vietnam into a strong information and technology (IT) nation by 2020. This was also Vietnam’s message to AMS 8.
