Oman: New radio station Merge 104.8 goes on air

Merge 104.8, Oman’s new English radio station, officially begins broadcasting today across Muscat and Batinah regions. The station will air western, Arabic and Hindi music. “Merge 104.8 is a reflection of the diversity in Oman,” Eihab A Abutaha, general manager, SABCO Media, said on Monday.

The radio’s target audience are English speaking Omanis and expatriates aged between 18 and 40 years. Merge 104.8 station manager Nadim Attieh said, “The programmes have been developed carefully, taking into account the varied and evolving tastes of our listeners and advertisers,” he said.

The presenters are a team of Omanis and expatriates. Chris Fisher will host the breakfast show (6 to 10am), while the lunch break show (1 to 4pm) will be presented by Rumaitha al Busaidi.  The evening show, Muscat Drive, from 4 to 8 pm (Saturday to Thursday) hosted by Sayeh Stone will play top hits and have phone-ins and interactive competitions. On Friday evenings, Sami al Hosni will interview Oman’s talented people on the Oman Talents show.
