In its history of 116-years, BBC Proms will host a Carnatic music performance by London based musician ‘Hari Sivanesan’ and South Indian female vocalist ‘Aruna Sairam’ on wednesday 27 July.
The partnership between Sivanesan and Sairam will see the two artists delve into their mutual roots to explore the history of Carnatic music. The concert will mark the culmination of their musical journey together.
Speaking on the partnership Sivanesan said to PTI, "It's time for India’s South Carnatic music to shine in the West, and I’m looking forward to diving into the roots of our music further."
Hari Sivanesan, a graduate of BBC Radio 3's World Routes Academy will share stage with his mentor Aruna Sairam, leading South Indian female vocalist. BBC Radio 3’s World Routes Academy scheme is founded to support outstanding young artists working in world music.
The 100th Proms season took place in 1994 and the festival now includes over 70 main Prom concerts every year, widening the range of symphonic and operatic music presented.
BBC Proms founded in 1895 is considered as the world’s largest music festival and features performances by top musicians. The performances take place during eight week season of daily orchestral classical music concerts held annually in London. The BBC Proms 2011 season commenced from 15 July and will conclude on 10 September.
