The International News Safety Institute is appealing to female journalists to share their advice, anecdotes and experiences for the first safety guide solely dedicated to women in the media.
INSI's decision to prepare this ground-breaking publication was prompted by the brutal attack on the CBS reporter Lara Logan in Egypt in February.
But INSI's safety guide will not just be for women covering conflict or civil unrest. It will be a comprehensive collection for all female media professionals working in environments where their safety might be put at risk.
INSI is also working alongside the Dart Centre for Trauma in Journalism for the publication to provide resources for female journalists who may have suffered traumatic experiences in the course of their work.
"More needs to be done to help women feel confident carrying out their roles in the media without fear of attack, and without fear that their safety might be compromised by their sex," said Hannah Storm, INSI's Project Manager, who is coordinating the publication.
"Whether this be in the at times of war, in crowds, in the hotel or at home, we want to show women that they are not alone and there are ways of reducing the risk of attack."
