Dutch FM update: Lopik eased back on the air

The Lopik transmitter site is partially back in operation. The public network 3FM was the first network to be restored overnight. Other services from Lopik will be turned on one-by-one today, to make sure that there are no new technical problems.

The technical investigation into the collapse of the mast at Hoogersmilde (Drenthe) can begin on Wednesday. Preparatory work starts today for the dismantling of the collapsed sections of the tower at Hoogersmilde. The dismantling is expected to take three to four weeks.

Listeners to the east of Groningen and Drenthe will have to wait a while before they can receive FM transmissions with strong signals. Work has begun on a temporary mast at an army barracks in Assen, which should be in service by the end of the week.

The terrestrial TV service Digitenne is still off the air in the north of the country. KPN wanted to increase the power of signals from surrounding towers, but initial tests on Sunday indicated that the reception improvements were not sufficient to risk further problems with cabling and equipment, so the plan was abandoned.
