Dutch Music Monday: 25 July

This week's new entries on RNW's Music Monday Top 10 (week beginning 25 July 2011) are Destine's Stay and Miss Montreal's Wish I could.

7. Stay – Destine
So there is hope for young guitar bands after all – even if they originate from the Netherlands. Destine are a fine example of a band that has broken through simply through hard work and great songs. Their debut album Lightspeed (2010) was released in 15 countries, followed by several international tours. They’re currently playing in Asia (China, Japan, Hong Kong and Indonesia) and their new album will be out after the summer.

10. Wish I could – Miss Montreal
Miss Montreal is the nom de plume of Sanne Hans, a young Dutch singer-songwriter who rose to prominence a few years ago when she featured in a commercial for cheese (you’d think they didn’t have to advertise for cheese in the Netherlands!). Constantly touring the Dutch club circuit, Miss Montreal has now made a decent career out of those humble beginnings. So there is more to the Netherlands than just cheese after all.
