International Emmys news judging under way

The semi-final round of judging of the news category for this year's International Emmy Awards began in Kuala Lumpur today.

Hosted by the ABU and the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD), the judging will take two days.

A panel of eight jurors from five broadcasting organisations is selecting the news finalists from all four International Emmy regions around the world, as well as current affairs entries from Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

The finalists will be announced by the end of August. The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences will announce the winners at the 32nd News and Documentary Emmy Awards ceremony in New York on 26 September.

It is the second time the ABU has been a host of the Semi-Final round of judging. The jurors are from NHK-Japan, EBS-Korea, KBS-Korea, ChannelNews Asia-Singapore, RTM-Malaysia and the ABU.

Each year, jurors at about 20 judging sites around the world choose the finalists in a field of categories ranging from news and current affairs to comedy, documentary, drama and children's programmes.
