KBS President joins Broadband Commission

Kim In-Kyu, the President and CEO of Korea's national broadcaster, KBS, has been appointed a Commissioner of the Broadband Commission for Digital Development, established by UNESCO and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

Launched in May 2010, the commission brings together leaders in government, business, civil society and international organisations.

Its role is to provide broad policy guidelines for the development of a strategic framework to accelerate the deployment of universal access to a broadband network.

Dr Kim, who is also an ABU Vice-President, succeeds the former ABU President, Yoshinori Imai, as a member of the commission.

Mr Imai, who stepped down in January 2011 both as Executive Vice-President of NHK-Japan and as ABU President, was a founding Commissioner of the Broadband Commission.

In this role, he argued that creating an environment for broadband and broadcasting to complement each other was the key to realising a beneficial information society.

The commission's next initiative will be a Broadband Leadership Summit in Geneva in October.
