67th Anniversary of Turkish Broadcast in Macedonia

One of the most important elements of the cultural and social presence of the Turkish community living in Macedonia is media.

 

Broadcasting in Turkish, the Macedonia Public Radio has a great importance for the Turks living in the country. 

The radio celebrates its 67th anniversary in broadcasting. The Radio Macedonia is the first radio channel broadcasting in Turkish and the broadcasts in Turkish began on 28 December 1944 in Upper Vıranovça village of Köprülü town. 

It was 15 minutes in the beginning, but today the radio has broadcast in Turkish up to five hours in a day.
Subjects on politics, economy, arts and culture are covered in the programmes. 

Currently, the radio has a staff of 25 people, and has managed to survive all the hardships that had occurred within the past years. 

Last year, Turkish Cooperation and Development Agency donated €120 thousand to the radio for technical equipment suppport. 

Macedonia Turkish Radio Deputy Head Zübeyde Ahmet said, "It is not a source of pride for only the Turks living here, but also this voice of Turks was heard in every corner of former-Yugoslavia in those days. The broadcasts in Turkish began on the first day the broadcast of the Macedonia Public Radio, and since then the Turkish community has been voiced in the broadcasts, and today we are celebrating the 67th anniversary.”
