BBC Radio 5 live discusses unemployment

As the unemployment figures are announced on Wednesday (15 February) BBC Radio 5 live looks in depth at the human costs of unemployment and the potential solutions to it.

From 10am Victoria Derbyshire hosts a debate on unemployment in front of an audience of 200 from MediaCityUK Salford, hearing from politicians, unemployed people, and businesses seeking to recruit staff. The programme will also be broadcast live in vision on the BBC News channel and the BBC Red Button.

Later that afternoon 5 live Drive hosted by Peter Allen and Aasmah Mir will look at the situations of four young unemployed people from different parts of the UK - Richie, Karen, Craig and Danielle.

The programme will follow the fortunes of the four as they seek work looking at why they are in their situation and the personal struggles they’ve faced, asking what the biggest hurdles are to them getting a job. All four will be advised by mentors who will offer them guidance in their search for work.

The programme will return to speak to the four job seekers over the next four months as the unemployment figures are announced, tracking their progress and looking at the human stories behind the headline statistics.
