Director of ABC International retires

The ABC announced that Murray Green, Director of ABC International will retire at the end of March 2012 ending a long and distinguished career of 24 years with the Australian national broadcaster.

Murray Green  began working for the ABC in 1988 as manager of what now is 720 ABC Perth. For a decade, Murray Green chaired the Election Coverage Review Committee and was appointed as the ABC’s inaugural Complaints Review Executive. In 2006,  he was appointed Director Corporate Strategy and Communications and then Director of ABC International Division.

The ABC’s Managing Director Mark Scott hailed with praised Mr. Greens outstanding service and contribution to the organisation: “He represents the very best the ABC has to offer in terms of his depth of talent and knowledge and his ability to fulfil a number of quite varied senior roles across the organisation.“

During Mr. Green’s  time as divisional head, ABC International has significantly extended the reach and relevance of the ABC to the Asia Pacific with the ABC providing transformational assistance in media development, health and education outcomes and encouraging best practice in governance.

Mr. Green also worked tirelessly with the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union in developing robust and responsive media in the Asia Pacific.  As a representative of the ABC on the ABU Administrative Council  he has always been a source of wisdom, sharing his vast experience. He played an important role in transforming the Union in the last two years. In an email the  ABU Secretary-General Javad Mottaghi thanked Mr. Murray Green for his invaluable contribution to the Union and expressed his  hope that Mr. Murray Green will continue its association with the Union in the future.
