Raina Konstantinova, who relinquishes her role as EBU Director of Radio this month, has left "an indelible mark on the radio landscape of Europe."
The tribute by EBU Director General Ingrid Deltenre is one of many paid by industry colleagues across Europe.
"Raina is a passionate advocate of radio and her contribution to public service media is greatly appreciated," Ms Deltenre said. "With the support of her team, she facilitated the exchange of a diverse selection of music and news and she created events and initiated conferences that inspired Members to innovate and set new targets. Her rich experience, both professional and personal, provided the EBU with fresh perspective into the cultural diversity of the membership."
Before her EBU appointment in 2001, Raina served as deputy Director General of Radio Bulgaria (1992-1996) and Director General (1998 and 2001). During this time, she was also a professor of radio production at the New Bulgarian University, having spent her early years as a reporter, a journalist and then editor-in-chief of Channel 1 of BNR (1974-1992) during a period of intense political upheaval.
Alain Massé, chairman of the EBU Radio Committee, said radio has always been the focus of her career. "To pay tribute to Raina is to honour a real professional, an exceptional human being and also a friend. For EBU Members, the name Raina will always resonate as a synonym for radio."
A new Media Department, led by Annika Nyberg Frankenhaeuser, will consolidate the activities of the Television and Radio Departments, the News Services, EBU Training and a Media Lab.
