Bluetooth music streaming for DAB launched

Frontier Silicon, which has a design centre in Cambridge UK, has brought Bluetooth music streaming technology to DAB/DAB+ radios.

The company has launched the Venus 2i-BT audio platform at the Hong Kong Electronics Fair. It couldn’t be more timely as wireless docking gains in popularity, Frontier believes.

Adding Bluetooth connectivity to the Frontier DAB platform develops the widely adopted Venus 2i platform into a fully featured solution for wireless docking systems with the benefit of digital and FM radio as an additional audio source.

Frontier claimed the new technology represented the most versatile, scalable and cost effective DAB plus Bluetooth platform on the market.

Venus2i-BT utilises the Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) to allow wireless Bluetooth transmission of stereo audio from an A2DP source – typically a phone or computer – to its audio system.

To allow for remote track selection and advanced media playback features the Audio/Video Remote Control Profile is also implemented.

Frontier says the functions and capabilities of the Venus 2i-BTs solution can be mixed and matched to produce a wide range of audio devices to suite different markets.

These include DAB, DAB+, DMB-R and FM radio; iPhone docking; Bluetooth streaming; Bluetooth remote control; multiple language display (including Chinese); alarms and sleep timers.

Steve Evans, Frontier’s VP of marketing and business development, said: “Bluetooth audio is becoming an important feature in the market as the concept of wireless docking gains in popularity.
