Ghana: Citi FM Radio Donates to Mama Laadi's Home for the Fifth Time

For the past six years, Citi FM, an Accra-based radio station, has brought big smiles to inmates of selected orphanages across the country, through its Easter Orphan Project.

One of such orphanages is the Mama Laadi Orphanage at Yorogo in the Bolgatanga Municipality of the Upper East Region, which received its fifth donation on Easter Monday at Yorogo.

Assorted foodstuffs, including maxi bags of beans, maize, millet and rice, as well as fruit juices, reading materials and toiletries, were presented to the home. Presenting the items, a staff at Citi FM, Richard Mensah, disclosed that the items were valued at over GH ¢3,000.

Additionally, a cash donation of GH ¢ 2,000 was also presented to the home. Out of the cash amount, GH ¢500 went to Mama Laadi to take care of emergencies, and the remaining GH ¢1,500 went to the orphanage.

Mr. Mensah said the project was instituted as part of the company's social responsibility to help the underprivileged.

He disclosed that the management would build a skills resource centre for one of the orphanages, which will cost at GH ¢100,000.

Mr. Mensah said the centre is expected train the underprivileged in various skills, so as to make them productive to themselves, their families, and the nation at large.

Training areas of the yet-to-be-built centre would include carpentry, masonry and ICT.

The Board Chairman of the home, Naba Apambila Aberimah, was there to witness the donation.

Mama Laadi Ayine, Caretaker, said there were 45 children in the home.

She acknowledged the continuous support her outfit gets from Afrikids Ghana, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), and Citi FM's annual support. According to her, one of the challenges confronting the home was the pressure from some of the locals who come to demand food.

This year's donation came with a health screening exercise.
The inmates underwent general body screening, including eye screening.
