Nebula victorious in BBC Radio Cymru's Battle of the Bands competition

BBC Radio Cymru listeners across Wales voted last night (Wednesday, April 18) crowning Nebula, from Swansea, the winners of Mentrau Iaith Cymru/C2 Radio Cymru Battle of the Bands 2012.

Following weeks of musical battles and a high standard of performances, only four bands remained in the final battle - Nebula (from Swansea), Fast Fuse (from Swansea), Sgidie Glas (from Llandysul) and Tymbal (from Carmarthen). The bands relied fully on the listeners’ votes to decide who came out on top.
“It’s difficult to explain how we feel - it’s the next big step for us. It’s difficult to take a step like this one in the music industry. We received 10 out of 10 from Elin Fflur and it’s a fantastic feeling. Thank you so much to the listeners - so many people helped us spread the word, so a big thank you to them also. We now can’t wait to record our second session with C2. I have to say, looking back, the first recording session was an amazing experience,” said Llŷr from the band Nebula.

The final round was broadcast last night on Lisa Gwilym’s programme, C2 BBC Radio Cymru, where the listeners had the opportunity to listen to tracks that were recorded especially in a professional studio, and hear the opinion of the official panel members - Elin Fflur, Guto Brychan and Ywain Gwynedd.

As their prize Nebula will:
  • receive a contract to record a Session for C2, Radio Cymru (usually 3 songs)
  • perform at a major national festival such as Maes B, at the National Eisteddfod
  • perform at Sŵn Festival 2012
  • perform on stage at the Young People’s Village, Royal Welsh Show 2012
  • play at the Gwydir Festival
  • have a full-page article in an edition of the magazine ‘Y Selar’
  • have a half-day photography session with a professional photographer
  • have the opportunity to play at Mentrau Iaith Cymru gigs
