Radio Pakistan‚ UNICEF to jointly launch programme to get every child in school

Radio Pakistan and UNICEF have agreed to jointly launch a programme aimed at getting all the out of school children enrolled and giving voice to their hopes and dreams.

This theme emphasizes the need for all these children to have access to schooling and get quality education up to the secondary school.

Radio Pakistan will broadcast a twenty-minute special programme every week‚ which will include key messages‚ interviews‚ news and survey reports‚ packages‚ stories and statistical information regarding state of education in different parts of the country. Overall situational analyses of the state of education in the country‚ and experts' views will also be broadcast in the programme.

Featured participants of the programme would also be funny characters - an uncle and aunt - to draw the children's attention to the importance of education.

The radio programme will also raise awareness among parents and caregivers on the importance of getting their children‚ especially girls‚ enrolled in schools.

Nearly twenty-five million children in Pakistan‚ the second largest number of the out-of-school children in a country in the world‚ are denied their basic right to get education. Of these‚ seven million children are of primary school age and sixty percent are girls.

Radio Pakistan enters into a collaboration with the UNICEF to make sure that the children out of school go to school.
