The Namibian Broadcasting Corporation is frantically searching for a sponsor to enable it to screen Saturday's 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Namibia and Liberia live.
Acting executive sport producer Trimo Herbst told The Namibian Sport yesterday that the national broadcaster does not have the required funds to air the match live from Windhoek's Independence Stadium but is looking to secure a sponsor before the end of the week.
NBC TV has come in for a barrage of criticism from its viewers - mostly outside of Windhoek - for failing to televise last weekend's World Cup qualifier between Namibian and Kenya live.
"We are literally running around trying to get this game aired live," said Herbst. "Once we get a sponsor, we will announce it."
According to Herbst the NBC had planned to screen last Saturday's match live but the "sponsors withdrew at the last minute".
He also said the notion that NBC lacks competence to regularly broadcast live sport events was far-fetched.
"The staff and equipment are there. It's the money that's not there. It's impossible to have a live broadcast without money," said Herbst.
Herbst said the NBC tries - when funds permit - to screen other major sport events live.
