AMARC Africa and FORCOM Will Hold a Conference on Community Radios and Access to Information in Southern Africa in October

Dakar, August 8th, 2012. The National Forum of Community Radio Broadcasters of Mozambique (FORCOM) is organizing in collaboration with the World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters in Africa (AMARC Africa) an international conference on the theme: “Critical Reflections on Community Radios and Access to Information in Southern Africa”, from October 9 to 11, 2012, in Maputo, Mozambique. The Conference is supported by the Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa (OSISA), Ibis Access to Information Program/AGIR, the Panos Institute for Southern Africa (PASf), EED, Oxfam Novib and Commonwealth of Learning (CoL).

The Conference seeks to critically examine both the governance of community radios and their effective role as channels of participatory and democratic communication for development for the poor and marginalized communities in the various Southern African countries, considering the socio-economic and political developments and the advent of the ICTs.

The Conference will facilitate experience and knowledge sharing so as to generate new knowledge and to develop new models for sustainable community radios in Africa.
