Pakistan: ECNEC approves a digital enabled 500 KW Transmitter

ECNEC has approved replacement of Radio Pakistan's old Medium Wave transmitter with a digital-enabled 500 KW transmitter at Faqirabad (Lawrencepur). The project to be completed with the financial assistance of Japan will cost over 1644 million rupees

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) at its meeting in Islamabad on Thursday approved replacement of Radio Pakistan's old Medium Wave transmitter with a digital-enabled 500 KW transmitter at Faqirabad (Lawrencepur).

The project to be completed with the financial assistance of Japan will cost over 1644 million rupees. It also envisages revamping of five studios along with Master Control Room at National Broadcasting House‚ Islamabad.

The work on project is expected to start in November this year and it will be completed in twenty months.

With the installation of new digital transmitter‚ Radio Pakistan's transmission will be available in the radius of 400 kilometers in day time and 1000 kilometers at night time‚ covering Khyber Pakhtunkhwa‚ FATA‚ Gilgit-Baltistan and parts of Punjab.
