India’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting sets up 11 working groups for Prasar Bharati revamp

A high-powered committee was set up by India’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) to review the role of public broadcaster Prasar Bharati. The aim is to assess its role and institutional framework and suggest measures to strengthen the broadcaster, especially in the context of its relationship with the Government.

MIB announced the formation of 11 working groups which will deal with the review as well as other crucial issues such as financial management, programming, technology, digitisation and staffing shortage, exchange4media.com reports.

The working groups will suggest a roadmap for enhancing the reach and potential of Prasar Bharati. The committee also has been asked to suggest a strategy for creating a network of domestic and overseas business partners for ensuring wider reach to a worldwide audience, including creation of an exclusive overseas service.
