Doomsday preacher Harold Camping is “doing very well” days after he was admitted to a hospital for a stroke, his wife said on Sunday evening. The 89-year-old Camping was admitted to a hospital on Thursday night after he suffered a stroke, the Oakland Tribune reported. A neighbour of Camping who had spoken to his wife told the Tribune on Friday that the radio preacher was doing “OK” and that the stroke seemed to only affect his speech, which appeared to be slurred.
Harold Camping, president of Family Radio in Oakland, California, made headlines last month for predicting that the Rapture and Judgment Day would occur on 21 May. He later adjusted his prediction, saying judgment came in a “spiritual” sense that day rather than in a physical one marked by earthquakes. In Family Radio broadcasts following his failed Rapture prediction, Camping has maintained that his prediction of the End of the World remains accurate and is still scheduled for 21 October, 2011.
