Today’s quiz question was read on 8 May, a holiday in France.
It’s also observed in other countries, but not always on the eighth … it depends on where your country is, and what the dateline is … but my question to you was, what is this holiday? What do the French – and others – celebrate on (or near) the eighth of May?
VE Day! Victory in Europe Day. The day we celebrate the liberation of territories and countries occupied by Germany during World War II. The actual act of military surrender was signed on 7 May, 1945, in Reims, eastern France. It was ratified the next day, the eighth, in Berlin, Germany.
The winners this week are: M. Jean-Maurice Devault from Montreal, Canada, Himel Ivo, from Rajshahi, Bangladesh, Mr. Srikanth, from Tatipaka, India, Sylvester Jersoma Puma, from Yambio, South Sudan, and Mr. S.J. Agboola, from Ekiti State, Nigeria.
Congratulations, winners!
