New Editor for BBC Radio Northampton

The Editor of BBC Somerset, Jess Rudkin, is take charge of BBC Radio Northampton next month.

She replaces Laura Moss who has left Northampton to become Editor of BBC Three Counties.

Jess is formerly a reporter at BBC and commercial radio stations in the Midlands and West Country before joining BBC Somerset in 2003. She progressed from a reporter to Breakfast producer, then News Editor. She has been the station’s Editor since 2008, taking on the job at the age of 29 as one of the youngest managers of a BBC local radio station. In her time as Editor, BBC Somerset has doubled its audience and been Sony nominated as a Station of the Year.

Jess told RadioToday.co.uk: “Radio Northampton is ambitious and successful – a genuine part of the fabric of Northants life. You can hear instantly from the output how passionate the team is about making great radio which keeps the listeners smiling. I’m really looking forward to working with them.”

Tim Bishop, Head of Regional and Local Programmes for the East added: “Radio editors need a wide range of skills. It’s both intensely demanding and hugely rewarding and it’s clear Jess has the skills and the utter commitment to our local radio audience that is the key to doing the job really well.”

Jess will take up her new post late in May.
