The deadline for entries to the inaugural ABU Radio Song Festival has been extended to the end of this month due to overwhelming interest from members to enter this first ever event.
It will give entrants extra time to finalise their national heats to choose an entrant for the finals at the ABU General Assembly in Korea in October.
“Being the first international song contest of its kind in the Asia-Pacific, the first year was always going to be more exciting,” says ABU’s Director of Programming Mr Takeshi Doki.
“The most important thing is that as many people as possible get to participate and that the quality of the entries is not compromised by being rushed. I think it will be a wonderful inaugural year,” he added.
The ABU Radio Song Festival working group, comprising 11 member organisations has been working hard to ensure that the first Festival is a successful and memorable occasion. The group revealed that the First Prize winner at the ABU General Assembly gala night in Seoul on 11 October will be invited to perform at the ABU Awards ceremony on 16 October.
Festival entries must be original compositions (musical score and lyrics), composed of any musical genre and ‘type’ of music and be played on any instrument, composed and sung in any language. Importantly, entrants must be unsigned, unpublished, amateur musicians.
As host broadcaster, Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) will record the show for radio and make it available to all ABU members, with rights given to participating organisations to air the event. Plans are also being made for live video streaming.
