Iran has officially launched its animation and sports channels during a cabinet meeting with the presence of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) Mr Seyed Ezatollah Zarghami.
The sports channel will broadcast its programs round the clock while the animation channel will be on air from 8 am to 12 pm.
Mr Zarghami said the sports channel covers programs for the general public, especially women as well as special programs including broadcasting news reports and competitions in sports disciplines which receive limited coverage in other channels.
Mr Zarghami added that much of the programs broadcast on the animation channel are produced in Iran and focus on religious, social and national themes. Currently, 40 percent of all animations broadcast in Iran including animated films and series are produced in the country.
