Explore challenges and turn them into opportunities, broadcast managers told

A Regional Seminar for Broadcast Managers “Decision Making in a Time of Change” held over two days in Kuala Lumpur received overwhelming support from broadcast managers in the Asia-Pacific region.

19 organizations from 11 countries participated in the seminar organized by the ABU and the Tun Abdul Razak Broadcast Training Institute IPPTAR.

MrTakeshi Doki, Director ABU Programming told the participants that the broadcasting industry is facing serious challenges. “In addition to devising profitable business strategies and deciding on which technologies to adopt, broadcasters are being forced to evolve swiftly in order to stay in the competition with its fiercest competitor: new media."

“While we have all been made aware that “content is king”, we need to ask ourselves if we are doing enough to retain our audience. As more online media and telecommunications operators link up, crucial decisions need to be made by broadcast managers, to turn these challenges into opportunities.” he added.

Dr. Drew McDaniel, Professor of Media Arts and Studies and Mr. Roger Cooper- Associate Professor and Head of the Media Management at Ohio University in the USA helped participants to identify current and future challenges in the broadcasting landscape, assess trends and diagnose organizational culture. The workshops culminated in the evaluation of several regional case study scenarios.
