Norway PT, MT to issue local digital radio permits and concessions

The Norwegian telecoms regulator PT said it and the media regulator MT will allocate frequency permits and concessions for trial operations of digital local radio stations in a nationwide frequency block. The block comprises 37 regions across mainland Norway. The concessions and permits will be valid from 01 January 2013 until 31 December 2016.

Regular broadcasting would then start on 01 January 2017, before which new permits and concessions will be announced. In each region, the frequency permit and concession will be allocated together. Local affiliation is not required and applicants may seek as many permits and concessions as they wish.

PT and MT require a NOK 50,000 bank guarantee for each region in which applicants wish to operate. Applications and bank guarantees should be submitted by 14:00 hrs on 31 August.
