USA: Cambridge native Kris Wexell helps launch new country station

Rochelle Broadcasting Company, owners and operators of Newstalk 1060 WRHL and www.wrhl.net, have launched a new radio station for north central Illinois.

Country 102.3, known as “The Coyote,” was launched Dec. 28 at 6 a.m. along with www.1023thecoyote.com.

 “‘The Coyote’ will fill a void in the market for today’s country listeners,” said former Cambridge, Ill., resident and Coyote program director Kris Wexell. “This is very exciting for country fans. Listeners now have a place to hear today’s best new country from artist’s such as Carrie Underwood, Jason Aldean, Taylor Swift, Luke Bryan, Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton and more.”

The Coyote Morning Show with Kris Wexell, Jeff Leon and meteorologist Candice King kicks off each weekday morning from 6 to 9 a.m., along with Tony & Kris Mid-Mornings. The Coyote is also the home of “The Big Time” with Whitney Allen weeknights and Saturday nights, weekends you will find American Country Countdown with Kix Brooks, Lon Helton’s Country Countdown USA,  CMT Radio Insider, Country Gold with Randy Owen and The Country’s Hot List with Shawn Parr.

The Coyote has also teamed up the CMT Radio Network and will be broadcasting live from the ACM Awards in Las Vegas in April along with giving away a trip to CMA Music Fest in Nashville this June. They will also be broadcasting live from CMA Music Fest.

The Coyote will also be hosting the Texaco Country Showdown in Rochelle June 29.

Wexell is the former program director of WKEI-WJRE, in Kewanee. Gary Peterson, former general manager of the Kewanee station, is now GM of the Rochelle stations.
