Celestial bodies, which were seen falling from the morning sky in the Urals, Russia’s Volga Region and Kazakhstan on Friday, were fragments of a meteorite. It was several meters in diameter, weighed about ten tons and was moving to Earth at a speed of 15 meters per second.
The meteorite burned up in the
lower atmosphere, resulting in fragments falling earthwards. This helped
avoid casualties and major damages, scientists say.
