Finland Celebrates World Radio Day

Finland’s commercial and public service radio companies have bought a full frontpage ad in the country’s largest newspaper.

The ad in today’s Helsingin Sanomat has the message “All You Need Is Radio” and is published to celebrate UNESCO’s World Radio Day and to promote important radio business issues including the importance of radio and the availability of radio frequencies. The ad also promotes a special message, which will be broadcast at 9.10 am on all radio stations following the Beatles song All You Need Is Love. The campaign includes a letter to leading politicians, signed by the director of commercial radio organization RadioMedia and the director-general of public broadcaster YLE.

In addition, Finland’s radio business has scheduled its annual radio awards ceremony and radio seminars on World Radio Day. The radio awards is broadcast on national television channel Nelonen.
