Ireland : Love Radio on three month trial in Dublin

Love Radio is the latest station to offer a test service on DAB in Dublin, operating for a three month trial period.

The station plays a wide selection of songs from the past four decades and according to station owners is receiving a very favourable response.

And although broadcasting for just three months the station owners are considering a full time licence with the possibility of adding presenters in the near future.

dB Digital Broadcasting, who operate the DAB multiplex under trial licence from ComReg, are looking to expand to Cork and Limerick in the near future.

MD Dusty Rhodes tells RadioToday interest is growing among broadcasters in DAB as a national broadcasting platform.

“For example, a niche station in Dublin with 100,000 listeners could double their audience overnight as a national DAB service. With the economies offered by digital it’s also a sensible and economical business move,” he says.

The company is also fielding a number of enquiries from radio companies outside of Ireland with at least one new service to be submitted for licencing before Easter.
