Ranchi, India: Ranchi University's community radio ‘Kaanchi’ misses Feb 15 launch deadline

The Pioneer reports that the community radio of Ranchi University (RU) ‘Kaanchi’ which was supposed to switch in its transmission around February 15 has been postponed. Officials are still working out on a plan to get the requisite funds for the radio project.

RU had first mooted a proposal to launch a radio in May 2011, and thereafter received licence from the Union ministry. Since then, technical aspects had been delaying the project.

The decision to begin Kaanchi in mid-February was taken at a meeting held in November last year, by RU Purchase Committee comprising RU Registrar AK Choudhary, finance officer KK Verma, CCDC and two members of the Syndicate.

The State Information and Public Relations Department (IPRD) is funding `40 lakhs for the entire set up. RU has to submit a bill against the claim of this fund. Thereafter, the money would be approved and disbursed by IPRD.

Unfortunately, RU is still preparing the bill for this receipt.
