Washington, D.C. - Mary Catherine
Pleffner has been named Chief Financial Officer of the Broadcasting Board of
Governors (BBG) and will start work in early March, the agency announced today.
Pleffner will be the principal
budget officer and financial management officer for the BBG, and will
coordinate closely on budgetary matters with Voice of America, Radio Free
Europe/Radio Liberty, Radio Free Asia, Middle East Broadcasting Networks, and Radio
and TV Martà . She will be responsible for directing all of the agency's
budgeting, accounting, and financial management operations.
"Mary Pleffner is a dynamic
executive with a wealth of leadership experience and a proven track
record," said IBB Director Richard M. Lobo. "The agency will draw
heavily on her finance, program and business expertise to lead organizational
change and achieve strategic goals and objectives."
Pleffner will plan and coordinate
all phases of the formulation, presentation, justification, and execution of
the BBG's total budget. She will provide related advice to Lobo, the Board, and
other top BBG officials.
Pleffner currently is serving as
Director of the Department of Commerce's Office of Administrative Services.
Earlier, she served in the Department of Defense with responsibility for
resource planning, budgeting, finance, and human resource involved in the
stand-up of DOD's U.S. Africa Command, and was chief financial officer of the
Economic Development Administration within the Department of Commerce, where
she also served as a deputy assistant secretary for management. Pleffner also
has worked for the Agency for International Development's Office of Inspector
General, Prince George's County Private Industry Council, and the U.S Coast
Guard.
