BBC and RFI reportedly off air in Ivory Coast

Reports say that the BBC and Radio France International (RFI) have stopped broadcasting on FM today in Abidjan, Ivory Coast in what appears to be a renewed clampdown on foreign media. Howver, the country’s regulatory agency for television and radio has denied cutting off the stations. Felix Nanihio, the agency’s secretary general, is quoted as saying “We aren’t aware of any measure against these stations.”

It’s possible that the interruption may have been caused by fighting between rival groups, but the BBC and RFI use FM stations located in different parts of the city, making a simultaneous attack on them unlikely.
