The number of listeners tuning to BBC Local Radio every week has risen by 298,000 in the last three months, according to the latest official figures released today by Radio Joint Audience Research (RAJAR).
The figures show that 7,726,000 people now listen each week – an extra 298,000 listeners across England compared to last quarter – and up by 35,000 year on year compared to Quarter 1 2010 when local radio listening benefitted from substantial snow-related listening.
BBC Local Radio's market share has remained stable against last quarter at 8.2%.
David Holdsworth, BBC Controller of English Regions, said: "These figures show that audiences are appreciating high quality distinctive radio that offers news, comment and features rooted in locality and topicality with presenters who care about their communities."
