Japan's NHK to air tsunami special

Japan’s public broadcaster, NHK, will present a special documentary on the 11 March tsunami this weekend for international audiences on its NHK World TV service.

The programme, in English, will include NHK’s exclusive footage and amateur videos, much of it never broadcast before.

It will provide a comprehensive look at the destructive power of the tsunami and remarkable tales of human survival.

The broadcast schedule is:  Time: 14 May Japan Standard Time (JST) 11:10/15:10/21:10/15 May JST 26:10/6:45. JST is GMT+9.

The programme can also seen online at these times at www.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/.

The magnitude 9.0 earthquake that hit the northern coast of Japan on 11 March generated a tsunami of unprecedented scale. In some areas, the tsunami reached close to 39 metres in height, and travelled 5 kilometres inland.
