Channel Africa celebrated Africa day on Wednesday, 25 May 2011. Staff members celebrated the day by showing up in traditional outfits, showcasing different African cultures.
Some activities that were planned included the prize giving ceremony where the winner of “Best dressed” and the runner-up were voted for by other staff members.
Mr. Anderson Kalu, dressed up in his Boubou attire, which is a Ghanaian outfit, was voted the winner, whereas Ms. Jenine Coetzer, dressed up in Ethiopian attire received the 2nd prize. All other participants received consolation prizes as a way of appreciating their participation in honouring Africa Day.
Mr. Anderson Kalu is a senior journalist/ announcer, in the Kiswahili service and Ms. Jenine Coetzer, Executive Producer in the English service. Other staff members who showcased some of the cultures included Mr. Joe Manciya in Zulu, Ms. Karabo Sehloho in her Nigerian Batik (which can be found in most West African countries) outfit, Nelly Nkuriikiye in Indian Sari and the Marketing Manager in Zulu traditional outfit.
This is a way of Channel Africa showcasing its vast culture and emphasizing its vision “To be the Voice of the African Renaissance”.

Very surprised to find Mr. Kalu. As a young Child, I enjoyed the Weekly swahili broadcast to east africa and the African hits played those days.
ReplyDeleteFrancis Yona, and William, all used to make my days. Now online, I can still smell the fresh African Rhythms as played in the early 1990s.
Love you Channel Africa.
