ABU seals deal for IAAF championships broadcast rights

The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) today announced the latest TV deals that have been concluded across the Asia-Pacific region and Europe.

Dentsu, the IAAF commercial partner for media rights outside Europe and Africa, has finalised a deal with the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union for extended highlights of the 2011 IAAF World Championships in Daegu, Korea (27 August to 4 September). This agreement covers 10 Asian territories and some Pacific Islands who will all be broadcasting free to air.

The countries covered by the agreement are Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Macao, Mongolia, Myanmar, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and Timor, the Pacific territories of Fiji and Papua New Guinea, as well as an array of smaller islands.

"The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union agreement is especially welcome news as it closes TV sales for Daegu 2011 for territories outside Africa and Europe," commented IAAF President Lamine Diack. "I'm also delighted that of the deals concluded in Europe and Africa, which offer extensive coverage of the 2011 World Championships in more than 100 territories, that all but a small few are with free to air terrestrial broadcasters."
