A mobile TV operator punting Korean DMB technology announced its readiness to roll out a broadcasting network
South African mobile digital broadcasting hopeful MobileTV have announced their readiness to roll out a network after a successful trial of Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) technology in Gauteng.
According to a press statement sent out today, the company last week submitted a technical report and an “initial request towards formalising its application for a permanent commercial license.”
DMB is a broadcasting technology developed in South Korea that can operate via satellite or terrestrial transmission.
In 2010 the Independent Communication Authority of South Africa (ICASA) awarded e.tv and MultiChoice licenses to offer mobile TV services. MultiChoice’s offering, DStv Mobile, uses the European DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcasting – Handheld) standard.
