Azerbaijan aims to switch off analogue this year

Azerbaijan could complete the transition to digital broadcasting in the next few months, BroadbandTVNews reports.

However, the actual date would depend on whether or not the government provides 120,000 low-income families with free decoders.

On 31 December 2011, Nushiravan Maharramli,  President of the country’s National TV & Radio Broadcasting Council, said that the council has asked the President of Azerbaijan to approve the free decoders and that the request was currently being considered by the government.

He added that all Azerbaijani TV channels have been simulating in analogue and digital to 85 percent of the country’s territory since December 22 2011.
