Former offshore radio DJ receives a knighthood

Roger Gale MP, who has represented the Thanet North and Herne Bay constituency in the UK House of Commons since 1983, has been given a knighthood in the Queen’s New Years Honours announced today. In the 1960s Sir Roger, as he will now be called, worked on several offshore radio stations. Starting at Radio Caroline North, he moved on to Radio Caroline South and then to Radio Scotland, where he became programme director. Later, he took up the same position with Radio 270 off the Yorkshire coast.

As an MP, Sir Roger has sat on the home affairs select and broadcasting select committees, and has served as Parliamentary Private Secretary to several ministers. He has also been a vice chairman of the Conservative Party.
