Radio regulator Ofcom has announced the award of two new community radio licences for services in Scotland.
Community radio services are provided on a not-for-profit basis
focusing on the delivery of specific social benefits to a particular
geographical community or a community of interest.
The awards are to:
- Crystal FM, Penicuik, Midlothian
- East Coast FM, Haddington, East Lothian
Crystal FM will provide a community radio service catering for all residents of Penicuik and surrounding villages in Midlothian.
East Coast FM proposes to serve those living and working in Haddington and in the surrounding area.
In a statement,
East Coast FM said they were delighted with the award: “A huge, huge
‘thank you’ goes to everyone – past and present – who has contributed to
and supported East Coast FM over the last 3 years as we worked towards
this day.”
The CMA extends its congratulations to the two new licensees, and wishes the very best of luck to both in getting on the air.
