India: AIR FM, DD Terrestrial services disrupted after fire at Delhi TV Tower

NEW DELHI: The transmission of All India Radio and other private FM channels in the capital which were disrupted following a fire at the Pitampura Tower is expected to be restored by late this evening. 

AIR sources told Radioandmusic.com that while services of AIR FM Gold (106.4) was immediately shifted to another tower those of Gyan Vani FM as well as FM Rainbow (102.6) have remained disrupted. Similarly, disturbances at Radio City, Red FM and Radio Mirchi have been affected. 

Other Private FM channels like Big FM and Oye FM operate from a different transmitter and their services have continued uninterrupted, the sources said. 

The fire broke out at 200 meter high television tower in Pitampura area of North - West Delhi on Saturday night. It was brought under control after about two hours. However, the cables which connect the transmitters to the aerials were badly damaged affecting the transmission services. 

Radio Mirchi sr vice-president Sachin Tagra said, "We are taking all necessary steps to restore the services to the listeners as soon as possible. We are hoping that our station would be live on-air within next few days." 

Terrestrial transmission of Doordarshan has also been affected and is expected to be fully restored by this evening, though DD engineering in chief RK Sinha said that it has been partly restored by yesterday.
