Your Weekly Paper, Benton, Iowa, USA reports that across the state of Iowa, some 40,000 students from more than 400
schools compete in competition speech. The Benton Community speech
program is proud to have one of their groups selected this year for
all-state recognition. The radio team of Megan McGovern, Megan Mishmash,
Rachel Larsen, Paige Namanny and Sofia Garcia performed their 6-minute
radio broadcast KYUM at the All-State Festival in Ames on Saturday, Feb.
16.
In the radio broadcasting category, students are challenged to create
their own original five to six-minute broadcast, which includes
authentic international, national and state news items, sports and
weather. The broadcast must also include an original feature segment as
well as a commercial. The KYUM team designed their broadcast around a
food theme, using a food competition as their feature segment (The
Grilled Cheese Smackdown) and an advertisement for a Spanish restaurant
as their commercial.
You can enjoy listening to the KYUM winning broadcast (as well as
many other groups) at Benton Community Speech Night on Thursday, Feb.
28, at 6:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Speech Night is free and
open to the public.
