From March 10 Deutsche Welle will stop it's Bengali service FM broadcast in Bangladesh

Deutsche Welle Bengali Services will end its FM broadcast in Bangladesh on March 10, 2013. Presently its FM service is available in all divisional towns in Bangladesh with crystal clear reception. Instead of Radio program, DW will start a Bengali Weekly TV show 'exploration' from April 16, 2013 via its partner in Bangladesh Ekushey Television.

Deutsche Welle South and Southeast Asia Division Head, Graham Lucas, said "after a long discussion DW authority has decided to stop FM broadcast. An agreement with Bangladesh Betar, we had aired two 30-minutes program on FM in Dhaka as well as other five cities in Bangladesh. The agreement period with Bangladesh Betar will expired on March 9, 2013 and then DW FM service would be closed.

No doubt, it is a bad news for Bangladeshi listeners because they will miss DW Bengali program on FM in their cities. But the reality is, there are so many listener tunes their favorite radio-DW on FM with excellent reception. It is interesting for me that this news comes after 3 days of World Radio Day celebration, where we talked so much about radio, its importance’s etc. What a surprising decision by DW!

It seems that ignoring Radio, DW is paid too much importance to Television. It is not right, at least I think. What’s your reaction, the listeners?
