Dutch Music Monday: 2 January

This week’s RNW Music Monday Dutch Top 10 (week beginning 2 January 2012)

It’s a new year, but nothing much has changed – our first chart of 2012 is still dominated by 2011’s biggest hits and stars, like Gers Pardoel (with 3 entries) and Armin van Buuren (two). There’s even a Christmas leftover in the top ten as You put the X in Xmas is at number 6.

Two songs didn’t make it to 2012: Jingle all the way by B-Yentl fell off the chart after 3 weeks, and No beef by Afrojack & Steve Aoki ft. Miss Palmer after one week.

1 (1) Ik neem je mee – Gers Pardoel (13 wks)
2 (-) Wil je niet nog één nacht – Glennis Grace & Edwin Evers (1 wk)
3 (2) Nergens zonder jou – Guus Meeuwis & Gers Pardoel (8 wks)
4 (8) Bagagedrager – Gers Pardoel ft. Sef (2 wks)
5 (3) Doluv2luv2 – Ilse DeLange (6 wks)
6 (6) You put the X in Xmas – Tiny Little Big Band (2 wks)
7 (4) What have you done – Anouk (6 wks)
8 (-) Nova Zembla – Armin van Buuren (1 wk)
9 (5) Meer kan het niet zijn – Bløf & Sabrina Starke (7 wks)
10 (10) Youtopia – Armin van Buuren ft. Adam Young (3 wks)
New entries

2 Wil je niet nog één nacht – Glennis Grace & Edwin Evers
Edwin Evers is the Netherlands’ most popular radio DJ, who’s hosted his own top rating morning show at Radio 538 since 2000. He’s also an accomplished musician, playing drums in his own band. Recently, he and his bandmates accompanied the candidates at the popular The Voice of Holland talent show.

He now features as a singer for the first time on Wil je niet nog één nacht (“Don’t you want [to stay] for one more night”), in this duet with Glennis Grace, who had a number one song on our chart earlier in 2011 with Afscheid

8 Nova Zembla – Armin van Buuren
Nova Zembla is the title of a Dutch hit movie depicting the lives (and struggles) of Dutch explorer Willem Barents and his crew during their late 16th century voyage to establish a northeast passage from Europe to China and the Dutch colony of Indië (now Indonesia). He failed miserably, being stranded on the island of Nova Zembla, where most of his crew (and Willem himself) didn’t survive the harsh winter conditions.

The film’s theme music has been remixed and re-recorded by Dutch DJ Armin van Buuren and enters our top ten this week.
