The new transmitting mast in Hoogersmilde, which is being built to replace the old one that collapsed following a fire in July 2011, will be several metres taller than the old tower, according to owner NOVEC. A spokeswoman said the extra height would increase the range of the transmissions. The rebuilding process has been accelerated, and the new tower should be operational in the summer. The Dutch Government is providing extra funding for the accelerated rebuilding process.
